17th century Devon oak carved box

Description: An ornately carved sloped oak box.   It has beautiful strapwork resembling carvings located in Devon architecture/furniture from this period. Within the strapwork, are lunettes and rosettes.  The side panels have one large lozenge with a central rosette.

Circa 17th century, Exeter, Devon, England.

Provenance:  Private collection of Paul Fitzsimmons of Marhamchurch Antiques.

Dimensions: 12-5/8”H x 26-7/8”L x 17-7/8”W.

Condition:  Age-appropriate wear.  The surface is dry and untouched. The top lid has a hole from previous wear.  The iron loop would have been for locking a bar in place to prevent the drawers from being opened.  The original lock hardware is absent.  A drawer is absent from the interior.

Repairs/Replacements:  The original hinges have been replaced. No repairs.
